The use of fluid to help manage many industrial processes has become invaluable. Industries such as automotive, oil drilling, mining, and construction rely on many hydraulic processes, and an important component of them is hydraulic motors. These are more energy efficient than many other kinds of motors, including electric and fuel powered ones. Any energy of the fluid passed through the system is converted into mechanical energy by the motor.

A vane motor is one type. This is used in rotating systems and has a bore inside the housing that generates mechanical energy. There are blades inside the vane which come in contact with pressurized fluid. This process enables the vane to rotate, thus torque is generated. Another popular type is an axial piston motor, in which the piston generates energy, while the high pressure forces this piston to move into the motor chamber and produce torque.

Motors can also use pistons mounted radially about a central axis. This is just another way they can generate energy. Each type might be dictated by the application the motor is going to be used in, but there are several operating parameters to consider when selecting one. The specific range of torque, pressure, temperature, speed, and maximum fluid viscosity of the motor are important features to note. Its pressure will tell exactly what range of fluid pressure the motor is designed to operate in, and if exceeded, could cause enough damage to render the motor inoperable. The operating temperature and speed should be thought of similarly. Too low or too high, and the motor and the entire system will not operate properly.

Other technical specifications to look for include the type of shaft the motor uses, as well as the shaft length. It is also important to consider how the motor is mounted, what its pressure rating is, and RPMs, or how many revolutions per minute it is capable of. The dimensions of the motor are just as significant, as this will need to be known in order to calculate how the device will physically fit into the mechanical system.

All of these can be determined by looking on the product page of suppliers online. With hydraulic motors being so common, the details are usually fairly easy to find and understand. Properties Of Hybrid Ceramic Ball Bearings

Ceramic ball bearing is a kind of bearing which has something different from other types of ball bearings. And in today's industries, there are more and more new categories of bearing products are developed to meet specific requirements.

This means the hybrid ceramic bearing operates with less friction, less ball skidding, lower moment from gyro-spin, and therefore, lower operating temperature for a given speed, and higher limiting speed for a given size.

The hybrid ceramic ball bearing generally refers to a bearing assembly consisting of inner and outer rings of standard bearing steel, with silicon nitride ceramic balls. For some applications, the properties of the bearing with ceramic balls offer functional improvements in several different areas over a conventional all-steel bearing. First of all, this kind of bearing has higher stiffness. A hybrid ceramic design typically increases bearing stiffness by 15 to 20% compared to all-steel. This allows increased cutting accuracy, as the spindle deflects less under load. Overall vibration is also reduced.

Secondly, they hold potential benefits for a variety of bearing applications such as the smooth surface finish and high hardness. Bearing-grade ceramic balls are harder than bearing steel balls and have very good surface finish. Wear between the surfaces is reduced, and there is no cold welding between the ceramic Ball Bearing and steel raceways under poor lube conditions. Therefore, the hybrid design generally requires less lubricant and is more forgiving of marginal lubrication than the all-steel design. The high hardness of the ceramic balls also makes them more resistant to surface-initiated damage from contaminant particles.

Thirdly, they have better corrosion resistance. The chemically inert ceramic balls will not corrode ¨C a potentially important issue for bearing applications such as food machinery and medical tools.

The New Commercial Water Meter Program Long Overdue

As far back as former Mayor David Ragucci it was one of the city’s best kept secrets that the some of the largest water users in the city were underreporting their water use because of defective water meters or had no meters at all.

Various efforts were made by different administrations to take a look at the situation.

However, it has taken years for the city to realize it has a water meter reading problem that concerns some of the city’s biggest industrial users of water.

The new commercial water meter program initiated by the DeMaria Administration will go a long way to correcting the situation, which, over the years, has cost Everett’s taxpayers millions in unreported or underreported water use.

The full installation of new commercial water meters will begin by the end of the summer.

A pilot program has already been put into service to test the new meters for durability and accuracy.

In some case use was underreported or not reported at all. In other cases, the water was coming in nicely but the meter wasn’t operating at all.

The city will take over ownership and maintenance of the new meters.

This assures the city and its taxpayers that true water usage figures will replace those that were often inaccurate.

This bit of conservation and oversight has taken the city almost a decade to finally put into use.

It has been a long time coming.

It is a program that will produce millions more in previously lost water revenues.

aluminum casting to replace an iron casting

Using an aluminum casting to replace an iron casting will result in reducing component weight by half. That is why auto producers are searching the areas where they may replace iron parts with aluminium parts. Most auto manufacturers prefer alloys of aluminium specially the A 300 series which have a mix of silicon + a minor amount of magnesium.

The silicon provides fluidity while casting, which allows thinner parts to be cast. The magnesium gives strength (via heat treatment). An important feature of aluminum and its alloys is that in comparison with ferrous alloys which show a unlimited fatigue strength, the fatigue strength of aluminum alloys goes down with increase in number of stress cycles this needs to be taken in account while designing its parts.

For getting high quality castings a variety of processes are followed. While casting permanent molds precautions are taken to ensure that it gets required cooling and vacuum pressure is also applied to ensure correct flow and lessen porosity. Aluminum is one of the few metals which may be cast by all processes of casting.



Die casting:

Aluminum alloys are more utilized in die casting than alloys of any metal. In USA alone 2.5 billion dollars worth aluminum alloy die castings are manufactured every year. Die casting is suitable for production of smaller parts. But when expensive manufacturing equipment is used the castings weigh 5kg-50kg. Cost effectiveness can be obtained only by large scale production. With die casting it is possible to have close tolerance and fine finishing surface. Die castings are manufactured by injecting melted metal into metal molds under considerable pressure. Quick injecting and quick solidification under high pressure make a fine grain surface, which leads to having best wear and fatigue properties. Aluminum die castings are generally not given heat treatment, so they cannot be welded.

Permanent die casting:

It is also known as gravity die casting and is suitable for large scale production. Their maximum weight is 10kg. But where heavy cost machinery and tools are used the weight of casting may go up to 50kg. Permanent mold casting have low pouring rate but metal molds solidify quickly, mechanical properties of permanent mold castings may be further bettered by heat treatment.

Sand casting:

Sand casting is casting of a mold with sand. In normal sand casting, the mold is made around a design by forcing sand mixed along with a bonding agent on the design. Then the design is taken out which leaves a cavity for casting. Melted metal is poured into the mold and after its solidification the mold is broken to remove casting. The most normal bonding agent is a mix of clay and water. Good metal handling practice is needed for getting good castings.

Investment castings:

It normally uses plaster molds and throwaway designs of wax or other burnable materials. Plaster slurry is "invested" all round designs for many castings the designs are melted out as the plaster is baked. Network Patch Panels

Patch panels are used as the central point in a network where all the network cables terminate. It is the grand central station of the network. Networks that use these panels (and almost all modern networks use this technology) are consider "star-networks" or they use the term "star-topology." This is because if you look at a drawing of your network, all the network nodes (nodes are end-points on the network and include things like computers and printer) all connect back to the central "hub" and it looks like a big starburst. Another term is "spoke-and-wheel" where the "wheel" is your hub and patch panel and the individual cables going out to your nodes (computers and printers) become the spokes.

They come in various types and configurations from the simple wall-mounted 12-port patch panel block, to elaborate 96-port (and more!) rack-mounted patch panel. As was mentioned above, patch panels are rated for speed. So if you are running Cat 6 cable, you will need a Cat 6 patch panel.

Network panels come in various designs and styles. There are patch where the cables plug-in straight (90¡ã), or angled at a 45¡ã angle downwards; there are panels with 110 style punch downs on the back and ones with tool-less punch downs; there are various number of ports on the panels. Check the internet for the vast array of styles available. There are also two different standards for network panels: T568A and T568B mentioned above. Be sure to buy the correct ones for the installation!

It is best to buy patch panels that are rated for both standards. Since the only difference between the two standards is the order of the colored pairs, most manufacturers rate their patch panels for both standards. They simply have both wiring diagrams affixed to their patch panels

The Sanling Torsional Family of couplings solve torsional vibration problems typical of those found in diesel engine applications. The Torsional coupling dampens torsional vibrations and tunes the system to have critical speeds outside the operating range. Sanling application engineers can analyze the application with their computer program and determine the exact coupling needed for most any application.
The SanLing family is a rubber-in-compression coupling designed for a wide variety of applications such as generators, pumps, compressors, front power take-off, etc. The largest size, the SanLing600, can carry up to 70,800 in lb of torque. A range of stiffnesses are available to provide tuning capability for most any application. The inertia of the driver and the driven will determine the required stiffness. The SanLing is one of the most versatile couplings available in that it can be adapted to many configurations such as shaft-to-shaft, engine flywheel mounts, or floating shaft. It not only provides torsional protection, but also absorbs shock loads and can tolerate misalignment.
 
For direct-mounted, diesel-driven hydraulic pumps, the SanLing coupling in Hytrel® and a LK coupling are available. These are very stiff couplings designed to shift critical speeds well above the operating range. When the inertia of the driven (hydraulic pump or pumps) is small compared to that of the driver (the diesel engine), a stiff coupling such as the SanLing Hytrel or LK is required. Hydraulic pump drives are a fast growing segment of the market, particularly in smaller diesel engine drives. Applications include crawler tractors, manlifts, compactors, skid steer loaders, excavators, and lift trucks. Both the SanLing Hytrel and the LK have many thousands of hours of successful service in a wide variety of applications around the world.
